The Significance of Latin America as a Market and Production Area Is Increasing
"Along with the trend in the international division of labor, the production and sales value of Finnish companies in Brazil and Mexico has rapidly increased, now totaling 2.5 billion euros. At the same time, especially SMEs have conquered technology markets through precise segmentation, for example, in the ICT and forest industries of Latin America, including Chile and Argentina.
The business environment of Latin America is challenging. Heavy bureaucracy, a slow judicial system, and ineffective labor legislation highlight the importance of good expert help, particularly at he initial phase. In some of the countries rapid, unexpected changes in exchange rates and official regulations increase the risks.
However, the overall trend is positive. EU’s free-trade agreements with Mexico and Chile have boosted Finnish export and, apart from a few exceptions, the countries are developing their business environment to be more competitive in the international market as exporters and targets for investment."
